Recreational boating is key to the Prop Club’s mission. The Prop has 12 covered dock slips for rent (6 20’- and 6 24’-slips). Also, Prop has 13 uncovered 20’ slips and four uncovered Jet ski slips.

The Club has a launch ramp as well. The Club’s sand beach is a nice place to land a boat and let the kids jump out for a swim. Kayakers can launch from the beach. The Club has boat parking for the season or the year.

The Prop is located on a beautiful basin for boating. Many boaters enjoy “The Party Cove” at East Cotton Park which is just across from the Club. Marine and Bay islands are to the north of the Club. The water ski slalom course is just south of the Club. The marina is just south. Fishing is good for catfish, largemouth, crappie, and pan fish.

Slips can be rented for the May to September season, for a weekend, or overnight. See the Annual Watercraft Fee Schedule for pricing. The Application for Watercraft Rental Waiting List is available here and should be sent to the Watercraft Chairperson. Get the Watercraft Rental Agreement form and send it to the Watercraft Chairperson. The slip availability is shown on the Slip Arrangement Form. The Watercraft Rules are attached.

2. Eligibility

a. The Club will assign a Watercraft Chairman and committee to administer the docks slips, and beach.

b. The Club will maintain a map of slips and boat owner assignments and post it in the Clubhouse. The Club will maintain a list of current slip renters based on the seniority of renting a boat slip. The Club will also maintain a waiting list for slips. To be included on the list a member must be in good standing, pay the full year’s dues, and complete the included “Camping/Boating Waiting List Form.”

c. The slip rental fee is due by April 1st. If a member does not pay the annual rental fee by May 1, the boat slip will become available for another member. Those boat slip renters who paid the annual fee the previous year and the current year will have first opportunity for the unoccupied slip in the order of boat slip seniority. If no current slip renter wishes to move, the slip will be made available to other members. The club will maintain a list of members wanting a boat dock and the available dock will be offered to those in the order on the list. If a member currently has an uncovered slip and wants to upgrade to a covered slip they need to get their name on the uncovered slip waiting list.

d. The Board has the authority to not rent a slip to a member who has not followed Club policies. For example, members that have not completed work hours may not be allowed to rent a slip.

e. Only one boat slip and one jet ski slip can be rented per member. A member may not sublet their slip.

3. General Rules:

a. All watercraft owners will communicate and cooperate with your fellow owners and the Committee. Communication and cooperation is important. Let us all work with the Watercraft Committee to resolve issues that come up.

b. All watercraft using the Club’s ramp, slips, or grounds for parking must be well maintained, be seaworthy, and currently licensed by the State and the City of Springfield.

c. Watercraft owners are responsible for policing their rented boat slip area and beach. Any lack of tidiness as determined by the Board is grounds for forfeiture of the boat slip and loss of the rental funds paid.

d. Watercraft can be beached on our sand beach temporarily (a few hours at a time). If there are swimmers in the area, the boat captain shall use extreme diligence in maneuvering the boat onto and away from the beach. This includes communicating with the swimmers and warning the swimmers of the captain’s intent to beach or leave.

e. Any boat leaking oil or gas shall be taken out of the water immediately so as not to create oil slicks on the surface. If an accidental spill occurs, spray it with a biodegradable solution (Simple Green) so it does not spread to neighbors.

f. All trash generated by watercraft owners must be placed in the dumpsters in the parking lot area. Do not put trash in garbage cans around the property.

g. All watercraft equipment (i.e., coolers, blow ups or other floating devices) must be stored by the owner and cannot be stored inside the Club or in the garage.

h. Watercraft equipment is stored in the boat at the watercraft owner’s risk. Watercraft equipment should not be stored on the dock walkways or in a manner that impedes safe walking on the walkways. These are common areas used by multiple members.

i. Boat lifts are not allowed. If a lift is desired, it should get Board approval before installation. No lift will be allowed that hangs from the covered dock superstructure.

j. Those members renting slips may be asked to move to a temporary space when the Club has a special event.

k. If a member sees a boat that is being harmed in the slip or harming another boat, or became un-tied, the member should first call the watercraft owner to explain the condition and concern, and have the owner resolve the issue. If the owner cannot be reached, the boat can be retied to avoid damage and a message left with the owner (by phone and/or text/email. The Club does not want to be responsible for securing owners boats.

l. Soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, and ice are available in the Clubhouse. The prices will be posted. These sales are how the club survives, so please respect the honor system we use to pay for commodities.

m. Electricity is not currently available. The Board will consider its installation when finances allow. No extension cords are allowed for the purpose of supplying electricity to a slip. There is concern that power cords could set up a condition that electrocutes swimmers in the water. We do not want that to occur at the Club.

n. As children are on the docks entering or leaving the boat, under the age of 16 years, must be supervised by a parent or an adult.

4. Fishing on the Dock:

a. Fishing is allowed on the docks. Fishing will be with an attended pole only; no hook and lines are allowed to be tied to the dock structure for attended or unattended fishing.

b. Children fishing on the docks, under the age of 16 years, must be supervised by a parent or an adult.

c. Individuals that are fishing should respect the boat owner’s property. Do not climb onto other people’s boats or jet skis. Do not un-tie or re-tie boats. If while casting be careful not to throw into or onto a boat. If you accidentally do, do not yank the line to get it off, please walk over and undo the lure by hand so that you don’t rip upholstery or pull off depth sensors. Remove all bait, hooks, lures, and accessories when done.
